Guidelines

Please use this checklist when creating press ready files. Files resulting in a failed primary Preflight will result in additional charges.

Cover Specifications

  • Source files must be included.
    • Layout - Quark, Illustrator, InDesign, Freehand
    • Fonts - Screen and Printer Fonts
    • Images - Vector and Raster images @ Hi-Resolution (265 dpi minimum or 300 dpi optimal)
  • Media Transfer Files CD/DVD, Zip 100, Zip 250, Floppy, Email, or FTP (Will provide login).
  • Please list all files in the order they appear in the project
  • Fonts - We utilize Adobe, Monotype, Bitstream, and OPTI (Castcraft) fonts. Cover and interior design must utilize fonts from these libraries.
  • Bleed required is 1/8".
  • Crop marks need to be set-up to the right dimensions.
  • All colors set to CMYK. RGB and Index colors must be converted to CMYK.
  • Any Spot colors are named the same in all applications. Example: Pantone 201CV and Pantone 201CVC are not the same color, and will not separate on the same plate.
  • Duotones screen angles are set 30 degrees apart to prevent moire patterns.
  • Spine size - determined by customized cover template supplied by Bethany Press.
  • Trapping will be handled by us
  • Color laser proof supplied for reference.
  • All colors you are set up to process separate or as a spot color
  • Maximum ink coverage 320%.
  • Tiff images constructed in Quark require picture box backgrounds set to white instead of "none".
  • For quality reproduction of designs containing large areas of black, utilize printers black.

Interior Specifications

  • Source files must be included.
    • Layout - Quark, Illustrator, InDesign, Freehand
    • Fonts - Screen and Printer Fonts
    • Images - Vector and Raster images @ Hi-Resolution (200 dpi minimum or 266 dpi optimal)
  • Media Transfer Files CD/DVD, Zip 100, Zip 250, Floppy, Email, or FTP (Will provide login).
  • Please list all files in the order they appear in the project.
  • Bleed required is 1/8".
  • Crop marks need to be set-up to the right dimensions.
  • Laser proof supplied for reference.
  • All fonts must be embedded in PDF.
  • No styles applied to fonts using the applicationŐs style menu (bold, shadow, outline, etc.). Use only styles created by the font manufacturer.

** Files must meet the above specifications. Files resulting in a failed primary Preflight will result in additional $75.00/Preflight thereon. Additional charges will be incurred for files that need our designers to work on.
